The first thing we’ll do is remove the old lockset, starting with the deadbolt. First we’ll remove the old handle set, then we’ll install the new one.
Today we’re going to install this new lockset which comes complete with a handle and a matching deadbolt lock. Not only does it give you the opportunity to update the look of your home with a stylish new finish, it also provides added security, especially if you recently moved into a new home. Save yourself some frustration and look somewhere else.There’s no better way to dress up your front door than with a new lockset. I could easily see this rusting through with time and breaking which would make the door impossible to open from the outside. I had to remove it once and re-do it and that was enough to cause the cable to snap. I found that tightening this screw wears out the metal cable and makes it brittle.
The way to attach the cable to the spring mechanism is with a screw. I found this out the hard way and since the garage door is the only entrance into my garage I was locked out. If the tension on the cables is not very taut then turning the metal handle all they way may not be enough to unlock the door. The means that when you turn the handle, there is about a quarter turn that the shaft rotates before it starts to rotate the plastic handle which releases the locks. The shaft fits into the plastic handle, but the hole in the plastic handle is not a square at all. When you turn the metal handle, it turns a rectangular shaft. It was probably something they just added to it and it is not optimal at all. I don't believe this piece was actually designed for this kit at all. The biggest flaw it the plastic handle itself on the inside of the door. The diagram simple shows a line going to the handle but doesn't indicate in what hole it is designed to fit. This would be fine if the image was detailed, but certain areas was very confusing as to how they went together.For instance, it is very unclear as to how the cable attaches to the plastic handle. It was simply one single image indicating where everything went. The instruction sheet that came with the product was horrendous.
